T.R. Simmons hosted parents and stakeholders for an informative meeting that focused on Title 1 policies and procedures. Title 1 is one of the nation's largest federal program through which school districts receive federal funding to provide supplemental instruction for students based upon academic need. The goal is to increase performance and academic achievement in the areas of language arts and mathematics. Schools are identified as Title 1 based on the economic level of the families who attend. The free and reduced lunch population at T.R. Simmons is greater than 40%, which qualifies us for Title 1 status. Funding benefits all students in the school. T.R. Simmons uses Title 1 funds to purchase technology and academic resources, host parent meetings and activities, and provide collaborative planning and professional development for teachers.
All parents are asked to sign a compact at the beginning of the year. The compact is an agreement between the parents and the school to help ensure each child's academic success. By signing the compact, all agree they are going to work together to improve learning. The compact is a requirement of the federal Title 1 guidelines.
