Parent Information for Distance Learning

Little Vikes and families,

Our teams of teachers have been working diligently to ensure that enriching and engaging activities are prepared for our students. They have created a distance learning plan for each grade level. Our Little Vikes will complete lessons each day from home. Lessons will be supported through teacher check-ins, teacher office hours, and other communications. Be prepared for a call or email 2 or more times/week from one of your child’s teachers or support staff to check in on their progress and provide support.

Teachers have prepared take home bags for each student. We are utilizing the core instructional materials for our lessons. Elementary students will complete lessons each day from home, which they will receive at the beginning of each week from the classroom teacher. Our Little Vikes will have low-tech, paper-and-pencil options, so they won’t need a computer to complete assignments. Enrichment and supporting activities will be sent to students through various means, including digital support.

In order to receive your materials, you will have an assigned pick up time. We understand that every parent may not be able to come at the assigned time. We only ask that you come during the pick up days to retrieve your child’s materials. A pick up schedule will be sent at a later time. Please plan for pick up on Monday, April 6 and Tuesday, April 7.

To pick up, please have your child’s nametag ready. When you pull up, you will not have to exit the car or roll down the window. We will load your materials in the trunk of your car. If you have transportation issues, please reach out to your teacher or to me. Also reach out to other students that you know that attend our school so that we can help get the message out.

Our schools and offices are now all operating remotely.  District buildings are open on a very limited basis only to essential employees.  If you have questions or requests, please email us.  We are trying to protect our staff, our students, and our community.

Let me end by saying how much we miss all our Little Vikes. We are concerned for our students’ health and well-being, as well as their families. Although none of us have experienced a pandemic before, the Viking family of students, parents, educators, and community leaders, and all other stakeholders has quickly risen to the occasion, as usual! We would like to thank everyone for your kindness and support, especially our health professionals, truck drivers, grocery store employees, first responders and all other essential operations personnel. Please stay safe and reach out to us if you need support.

Thank you,

Meagan Fields, Principal
